Basavakalyan. May 10, 2011: A huge rally was organized against the proposed plan to cut government quota in engineering colleges here today. The protesters demanded that “The government should ensure 60% quota for government seats in all professional colleges including engineering colleges.”

Mr. Asadullah Khan, president SIO, Basavakalyan Unit addressed the rally, “SIO believes that education should not be commercialized. The Government is trying to increase the fee and decrease government quota in professional education particularly in the engineering stream. This is not the solution of the problem. This is an issue of social justice and should be addressed in that direction only.”

Students from professional colleges gathered in large numbers and shouted slogans against what they called the “Corporatization of professional education and anti-students policy of the government.” Mr. Muhammad Ghulam Rasool also addressed the gathering.
