Bangalore: Sept. 29, 2011. Salma Kousar of Bangalore, a PhD scholar in Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi was the only woman to represent India in the global conference on “Climate Change, Agri food, fisheries, and ecosystem” held in May 2011 in Morocco. Salma Kousar is an inspiration for all who aspire to reach the pinnacle of academic excellence.
Daughter of C.D. Mohamed Yaseen and Kousar Rukhsana of Chitradurga, Salma Kousar has been a brilliant student throughout her career. She completed Masters in Political Science in 2008 from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. She secured first rank in the entrance exam for M. Phil at J.N.U. She was awarded M. Phil by J.N.U. for her thesis “India’s approach towards climate change negotiations” in 2010.
She is now pursuing research at the School of International Studies, JNU on climate change. Her father C.D. Mohamed Yaseen, former member, Central Petroleum Advisory Committee, Ministry of Petroleum, Government of India speaking to Karnataka Muslims said, “It is Allah’s Blessings and her commitment and determination that she has reached to such a great height of academic achievements.” It is time, Muslim students take an inspiration from her dedication and provide such examples of academic excellence.
