Minority studies chair at KUD: Minister writes to CM

Bijapur/Dharwad: Attempts to establish a Minority Studies Chair at Karnatak University, Dharwad have once again gathered pace with the lone Muslim Minister in the State Cabinet writing to the Chief Minister in this regard.

Minister for Wakf, Haj, and Minority Welfare Mumtaz Ali Khan has written to Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa calling for establishing the chair at the earliest.

The chair, incidentally, was approved way back in 2005-06 and Rs. 10 were released for the purpose. It was proposed to carry out a comprehensive study of the educational and the economic condition of the minorities and submit a detailed report in this regard along with remedial measures to the State Government. Regrettably, neither the said report was submitted nor any headway was made in setting up the chair. According to Mr. Khan, he would impress upon the Chief Minister to establish the chair at the earliest.
