KMNN: Bangalore, March 03: For the first time in the history of Karnataka the lone Muslim membership in Karnataka public service commission (KPSC) has been snatched and given to a Hindu. State Muslims are shocked and are since then protesting over it and requesting to restore the lone Muslim seat. Unhappy over this injustice
Muslim organizations all over Karnataka are demanding immediate redressal. Recently Karnataka Muslim Muttahida Mahaz, urged the Chief Minister to take immediately appoint a Muslim for this position.
Following is the text of representation to the Chief Minister by the Mahaz.
The Honourable Chief Minister
Government of Karnataka
Subject: Non-Representation of a Member from Muslim community in Karnataka Public Service. Commission-Appeal to nominate a Muslim on KPSC immediately.
With reference to the above, we the representatives of Muslim Community in Karnataka bring to your kind notice that the Karnataka Public Service Commission is functioning without a Muslim Member since 06-06-2010. Sri Riaz Ahmed who had discharged his duties as an honest and upright officer retired on 05—6-2010 and in his place no other Muslim has been nominated. After 06-06-2010, the no of Muslim candidates for selection for various posts by KPSC has come down drastically, in the recent number selections for High School Head Masters post the KPSC has shown utter disregard towards meritorious Muslim Candidates. Out of 629 posts, only two Muslim candidates are selected under general merit.
There is on one to question the irregularities taking place in the commission. Shortly the commission will be conducting interviews for the selection of gazette probationers, if no Muslim member is appointed, the Commission will repeat the same injustice to the Muslim candidates.
Since the inception of the State through Public Service Commission in the Year 1951, invariably a Muslim Member has found a place all these years. It is for the first time that in your regime as Chief Minister of the State no Muslim member is appointed. If you look at the structure of the commission there are 4 members from S.C & S.T Community, 3 Members from backward communities and one member from the Jain community which is a microscopic community in the State. You have conveniently ignored the Muslim community which constitutes around 14% of the State’s population. This is against the secular policy of the State which ensures equal representation to all the Communities living in the State of Karnataka.
In the light of these facts, we appeal to you to immediately appoint a Muslim member on the KPSC, it is learnt that the Government has decided to appoint two more members for the KPSC after amending the relevant Rules. It is in this background that we request you to appoint an honest and upright Muslim member on the Commission and bring an end to the injustice committed by the KPSC towards Muslim Candidates.
