A sessions court here pronounced the order acquitting 11 Muslim youth of charges leveled against them for alleged offensive activities. There were two cases registered in the Malmaruti and APMC police stations of Belgaum during 2008. Principal District and Sessions Judge Mr. M.S. Balakrishna passed the order on Nov 8. Totally 15 Muslim youth were charged for their supposed involvement in alleged activities related to help in bombs and abetting communal violence.
Mr. S.R. Mundargi, advocate for the (accused) youth said, “The Honourable Judge Mr. Balakrishna in his order observed that the Police Department (prosecution) failed to prove the allegation leveled against the accused and that whatever evidence they provided did not substantiate the charges.”
Those who were acquitted by today’s court order are: Nasir Liyaqat Ali Patel-28, Aijaz Khan Ghulam Hussain Khan, Imtiyaz Abdul Azeez Dhalayat-29, Nadeem Abdul Nayeem Sayed-27, Naveed Munir Ahmad Qazi-30, Liyaqat Ali Abdul Gani Sayed-34, Iqbal Shoukat Ali Jakati-35, Nasir Abdul Majid Rangrez-34, Tanveer Abdul Sattar Mulla-28
Dr. Munroz Nalband-35, and Dr. Mohammed Asif.
The two youth who are still lodged in Ahmadabad jail are Nasir Patel and Nadeem.
As per the police version the accused who are declared to be absconding are:
Sadiq Sajid Mulla and Imran Jafarsab Rajgoli of Belgaum, Mufti Abu Bakar of Azamgarh (Uttar Pradesh), and Hafiz Hussain of Bijapur.
