144 people donate blood at Muslim Welfare Association’s camp

Udupi: As many as 144 people donated blood at the donation camp organised by the Muslim Welfare Association in collaboration with the Kasturba Hospital Blood Bank, Manipal, at the Jamia Masjid here December 24, 2011.

Dr. Sudha Bhat, Director of the Blood Bank, and Dr. Ruksar Anjam, Medial Officer of the District Hospital, explained in detail the need and requirements for blood donation. No researcher has yet succeeded in creating artificial blood even in this advanced age. Hence, the blood for patients has to be obtained only the through volunteer donors, they stressed.

The President of the Udupi Jamia Masjid, T.S. Budan Basha, and the entrepreneur from Malpe, Naqwa Yahya spoke. Usman Ali, President of the Muslim Welfare Association, presided over the function. Maulana Muhuddhin Gilani quoted from the Holy Qur’an. Zakir Hussain, treasurer of the association, presented bouquet to the guests. The Vice President, V.S. Umar welcomed the guests, Muhammad Munir proposed the vote of thanks and Muhammad Maula anchored the programme.
